If you see a list of folders on the left side of the screen, you will need to unclick
the folders button on your menu bar.
Now that you can see the task bar on the left of the screen click on "My Network Places"
under the Other Places menu. This will open your My Network Places and display a new set
of options on the taks panel.
Step 3
- Click on the menu option "Add a network place" from the Network Task menu option.
Step 4
This will start the "Add Network Place Wizard". From the main screen click the next button.
The wizard will do a quick search for network options. Depending on your machine the wizard
will display one to many options.
Click on the option for "Choose another network location" from the list and click the next button.
This section of the wizard is where you will insert the FTP Site address. Enter
ftp://ftp.drexeltech.com/ and click on the next button.
Uncheck the check box for "Log on anonymously" and enter your FTP Site user name.
This is the name that was sent to you from the FTP Site Administrator when you signed up for your FTP Account.
After you have entered your FTP Account user name click on the next button.
This section of the wizard is asking you to name your new network place. You can use the default
name that windows creates, or you can enter a name that you want to use.
For example I have changed the name from the default ftp.drexeltech.com to Drexel Technologies, Inc. FTP Site.
If you do not wish to connect to the FTP Site at this time uncheck the "Open this network
place when I click Finnish." check box and click on the Finish button. Otherwise To complete
the wizard click on the Finish button.
Connecting to the FTP Site
If you are just now following along with the group and need to connect to the FTP Site, you
will need to open the My Network Places seciton of your computer. To see how to get to the
My Network Places review the instructions above. When you are at the My Network Places area
double click on your saved Network Place to open the FTP Site.
Ok for the rest of us who decided to leave the check box check and are now looking at a Log On As
dialog box. Enter your password in the password field. If you want to save your password for the FTP
Site check the Save password check box and click on the Log On button.
As long as you have entered your login and password information correctly you should connect to the
FTP Site. If you are getting an error about connecting to the Data Port check your Firewall settings
for PASV FTP Support.
Now that you are connected to the FTP Site you can operate just like you where right in Windows.
You can drag and drop, create and delete folders just like you would in windows.
To upload a folder to the site just copy the folder from your local machine to the clip board (ctrl-c).
Now that you have the folder in copied you can paste it right to the FTP Site window. (ctrl-v)
And that folks is how you connect to our FTP Site.
Have a great day!
